My Favorite Jr Turned Sr for the 2013-2016

Image
Now that the London Olympics is over, I am more than ever excited to see the upcoming talent of gymnasts for the 2013-2016 gymnastics season. And onto Rio 2016! My first favorite is Sarah Finnegan. What was a shame was how Sarah couldn't get much international experience due to the stupid age limit rule.   Sarah Finnegan Sarah is from the same gym as 2008 Ivana Hong, and 2004 Olympians Courtney McCool and Terin Humphrey. What I like about Sarah is her beam routine and her choreography. Katelyn Ohashi Katelyn trains under Valeri Liukin at WOGA, the same gym of Rebecca Bross, 2008 Olympics Champion Nastia Liukin, and 2004 Olmpic Champion Carly Patterson. What I like about Katelyn is how she is a mix between Carly and Nastia, and I like her beam, if only she would connect her standing arabian into her first layout series then her difficulty value would go up like crazy. Polina Shchennikova Polina is pretty much a mini Nastia. BOTH Russian and parents trained in gymnastics in the Sovi...

Changes I'd Make In Gymnastics

Image
The gymnastics world, while it's one of the most watched sports of during the Olympic games, has some of the most craziest rules I have ever heard of and some of them do effect other gymnasts. Here are some of the things I would change. Tie Breakers and Double Medals The tie breakers are crazy. At 2012 Olympics Aly Raisman didn't win the bronze medal even though she tied with Aliya Mustafina. Then in 2008 Beijing Olympics Nastia Liukin tied with He Kexin but Nastia was awarded the silver medal due to the tie breaking rules. In the Olympic games before Athens they used to give out double medals, I could understand for the All-Around not giving two golds, but would it kill the FIG to give out two bronze and silver? Come on now folks it wouldn't be too much of a change. Age Limit I think the FIG should lower the age limit and here's why. By the time a gymnast reaches reaches the age sixteen, some have either accepted scholarship offers from universities, or some get injure...

Kanaeva Golden Again

Image
I love Rhythmic gymnastics. It does not use a lot of gymnastics elements, it more of dancing, while using tools, the scoring is different from artistic. Now don't get me wrong I am American, and I always want U.S.A to take home the gold, but I love watching when Russia performs. They have dominated this sport for years, and it's because of their culture, the Bolshoi ballet is legendary, and most Russian gymnasts, artistic and rhythmic, have trained in classical ballet along with their gymnastics training. Rhythmic gymnastics is about the dance elements while also using the apparatus, it requires intensive ballet training and a lot of flexibility.  What I love about Kanaeva is how gra ceful she looks on the apparatus. She is a lso con sidered the most succes sful rhythmic gymnast. Winning two Olympic All -Around titles straight and multiple world titles. I was so happy she won, she deserved it, she's so elegant and graceful. I hope she considers going into professional dance...

Women's All-Around, American 3 Peat

Image
For the past two Olympics, U.S.A. won the All-Around. In Athens 2004, Carly Patterson was the Golden Girl In 2008 Beijing it was Nastia Liukin For the third Olympics straight, in 2012 London Gabby Douglas fulfilled the U.S. expectations for a third All-Around Olympic Champion. With Russia's Viktoria Komova and Aliya Mustafina taking silver and bronze.

Men's All Around

Image
The Men's Individual All-Around final occurred and as predicted Japan's Kohei Uchimura won the gold. As much as I want the U.S. to win titles I'm glad Kohei won, he is a fabulous athlete. He has the most difficulty of any male gymnast in the world, was the World All-Around Champion from 2009 - 2011, and he worked hard for his success, congrats Kohei! However I was extremely surprised when U.S.A Danell Levya won the All-Around Bronze! This makes Danell the first Cuban-American to win an Olympic Title CONGRATS DANELL!

WOMEN'S TEAM WINS!

Image
1996 was the first time the U.S.A's Women's gymnastics team won the Olympics, the team was known as the Magnificent Seven. And now for the second time in gymnastics history, Team U.S.A won the team gold! And they will be known as the Fierce Five

Olympics: Gymnastics Men Team Final

Image
On Men's qualification day, the top two countries China and Japan has disastrous results and team U.S.A was first. So far so good. Then in the team final one fall and it just started causing bad momentum for the team. First Sam fell on exercise. Then two falls on pommel horse, and a mess up on vault, U.S finished in 5th. The question was what happened to them after day one? Jonathon Horton then stated how they're young, but they'll get there.

Olympics Qualification for Women's Gymnastics & Two Per Country Rule

Image
I won't deny it I'm a big fan of gymnastics, I used to do it when I was little but too many threatening injuries and I had to stop. I love to watch the Olympics, the only sport I watch during the Olympics is gymnastics. The Women's Gymnastics team of the U.S.A. finished first in qualification and then something happened that the Americans didn't like and were demanding rule changes. The same happens every year in the Olympics, something happens and then because of the rules they automatically demand a rule change. So what happened that caused this sudden outcry from Americans was simple. The International Federation of Gymnastics (FIG) has a rule stating that only two gymnast per country can compete in Event finals and in the All-Around. 2011 World Champion Jordyn Wieber of the U.S. missed out due to mistakes on balance beam during qualification, and deductions from stepping our of bounds on floor exercise. Her other two teammates Gabby Douglas and Aly Raisman performed...

2011 Worlds Championships Women's Team Final

Image
In 2010 Russia was the team to beat. Now Team USA is the one to beat in gymnastics. Team USA swiped the gold medal leaving Russia with the silver. Congrats Team USA

World All Around Champion

Image
The first Russian to win the World All-Around since Svetlana Khorkina in 2003 is... Aliya Mustafina Aliya qualified first into the All-Around and qualified into all of the event finals. Bross was in the running for silver but an uncharacteristic fall on beam knocked her out, but a strong performance on floor got her a silver medal.

2010 World Championships Team Final

Image
It was the Russian Renaissance, Russia has not won an Olympic title since they turned from the Soviet Union. Russian team was lead by Aliya Mustafina and they won the gold, and the U.S. won the silver.

2009 World Champion

Image
And the 2009 World Champion is . . . Bridget Sloan! It makes me happy another Team USA win. But there was a fault, the WOGA 3 peat star Rebecca Bross was in the running to be the World Champion, her beam routine was near perfect and her score bumped her to the top. But then a small titanic moment happened on her last tumbling pass fell down with her score being deducted by final point and was awarded the silver medal. I had a hard time finding the actual video during the All-Around but this is the video from the event finals.
